Gathered and documented by Alberto Favara in his Corpus di Musiche Popolari Siciliane, this traditional Sicilian song was sung by the wives of the fishermen. Favara noted that the women who sang this, although hardened by misery and deprivation, expressed the most tender and sweet sentiments for the well-being of their men who were at sea amid danger and hardship.
